I’m beginning to think that I have a slight chemical dependency problem – with coffee, I mean. I usually can’t function in the mornings until I have a cup of coffee at work. The history of coffee and even the manner in which it’s made confounds me. I mean, a coffee bean is really the seed of a coffee plant. Someone, somewhere along the line, thousands of years ago, had to somehow come up with the idea of harvesting seeds from a random plant, drying the seeds out, roasting them, grinding them up, then pouring heated water through the powder, and drinking whatever came out on the other side.
