Chasing the Light

Have you heard the phrase "chasing the light"? In the world of photography, light is everything, well lets put it this way, without light there can be no photography. In some disciplines of photography the photographer can control the light either through studio work or with flash or reflectors, but for the landscape photographer light can be elusive and fleeting. Many landscape photographers will only shoot certain times of day, during blue hour, sunset and golden hour. During these moments the light is soft and caressing, vibrant and alive whereas the midday sun can be harsh and blinding. The shot of Golden Lake at Beartooth was photographed during the golden hour, just prior to sunset. The rocks along the lake's edge are golden as are the trees where the evening sun reflects gently and beautifully.
