Changes or a View from the Bridge

Life is a series of moments or stages, some quiet, others quite dramatic. I'm going through one of those dramatic ones. Changes are coming for my family and me, not necessarily bad changes, but changes none the less. As I lean into these changes I'm reviewing where I am at this stage of life, relationally, professionally, spiritually and creatively. For this post I just want to address the creative side. For decades I have focused on making a living and supporting my family. As a graphic designer I've had something of an outlet for my creative side. But my artwork has largely fallen by the wayside, wasted talent with little to show. A couple of years ago I began to take photos for a fun, relaxed way to create. I have found this to be very rewarding and enormously fun. As I have experimented and grown, I've reached a place where I want to move beyond the hobby aspect of photography and into a more accomplished phase. This requires me to study and read and observe what other photographers are doing. I'm seeking to find my vision, my style, my expression. Over the next few weeks I will be reviewing and revising the images I have on both this site and my FB page. I will be organizing and presenting images in a more cohesive way. I will also be trying a new adventure. When you step up your game you need the right tools to play, and I'm in need of new tools. For the past several years my wonderful daughter, a great artist in her own right, has lent me her camera to use. It's time for me to move to newer, better equipment. Quality cameras and lens are not cheap and money is tight. So I will be rolling out a fundraising campaign on Indigogo to try to raise money for new equipment. I'm a bit fearful, the possibility of failure is daunting. For me it's a bit like my fear of heights. But I am on the bridge and I can see the possibilities, and I'm pushing forward through my fear. I hope you'll join me in the journey, as I strive to create images that bring a smile or a "that's cool" moment.
