Can art help the world.

Today I helped out with a voluntary programme called food for life, which is a feeding scheme created to help address the needs of the poor communities in the Cape Flats, in Cape Town, South Africa.

I think many artists create art with the intention to create beauty and express themselves in a creative manner. Art can also be used as a tool to educate, inform, expose and communicate different messages. It can also be used to generate interest and raise money for certain causes.

I have been thinking about how artists could create art to help fix the problems in our society.

South Africa is a very beautiful country with an abundance of beautiful natural scenery and vast open landscapes which are still filled with much wildlife. However, because of our complex and challenging political history and current social problems there is a huge tragic situation where poverty, disease, and many other forms of social illness are in high abundance. Mostly the first world is unaware of how bad this situation really is.

Of course South Africa is not alone with these problems as every country has its problems associated with poverty. Clearly something is wrong and more needs to be done about this. I am grateful for the opportunity to share my thoughts on this platform. I hope people reading this will consider the potential that art has to raise awareness to the problems in our society.

If people are not aware, problems will get worse. However through awareness at least we have the opportunity to help.
