Artist launches effort to sell work after 35 years of Photography

To begin with, no I’m as old as you may think. I know, 35 years of working on an art form sounds like a long time, and it is, but I started early.

The shutter bug bit me early and I started taking pictures when I was 7 or 8 years old. I really can’t remember exactly when, but it was definitely before I turned 10. I found my mom’s old Kodak Brownie Camera. I played with it for weeks; even without film in it I was fascinated.

It wasn’t long before I was grabbing my parents Polaroid Instamatic so I could get instant results of the shots I was taking. My parents finally relented and bought me my own Kodak 110. With my own camera in my hands there was no stopping me. And as it’s said, the rest is history.

4 or 5 years later I advanced from my 110 to my first 35mm and then a second. I went on a lot of vacations lugging both 35mm’s with me in a camera bag that pushed the limits of carry on luggage. I advanced through the same stages that I think a lot of budding photographers went through. Multiple lenses for each camera, filters for effects. Multiple flashes and auto winders to advance my film for rapid shots. Add in a book or two on photography and a dozen roles of film and it became a lot to carry. I remember coming home from several vacations with so much film that it would be a month or two before I could afford to develop it all.

I love my digital camera! Though I still carry all of the lenses and accessories, I don't have to develop all that film.

For the last 35 years, my cameras have never been far from my side. I have a passion for capturing life in photos, freezing a moment in time. I’ve studied books on the subject, taken college classes and I even did a 9 month unpaid internship at a professional studio to learn more. I learned a lot and he got a lot of black and white film developed for free.

I guess life, fear and some self doubt kept me from making the leap into the world of photography. I mean just hang a shingle over the door and start charging people to take their pictures, right. Or buy a beater jeep, pack up a bag or two and hit the road taking pictures and trying to sell them. It just never seemed that simple. From time to time I've tried to sell my work at art and craft shows, but I that’s a hard path to walk when life has bills.

After 35 years with a camera in my hand, it’s time to change that. The internet and Pixels.com has opened up new avenues for me to share my pictures with the world. So here I am on launching my photographs on a fine arts website for the world to see. Ok I guess for the few people who stumble upon them to see, here are the moments in time that I've captured and frozen.

Thank you for taking a minute to get to know a little about me and my passion. I hope you see something you like.

Stop back often. I have decades of work to share.
