A picture is worth a thousand trophy mounts

Recently a customer said to me "It's cheaper to pay you to paint a picture of me and my dogs with a big hog than to pay a taxidermist to mount that hog's head. Next time I catch a big one I'll just have you make me a painting. I have a hog head hanging on my wall over my recliner and bump my head on the stupid thing every time I stand up!"
Now that got me thinking! I love a good mounted trophy hog (or any other game) In fact I have a body mounted barr hog in my dining room. He was a catch of a lifetime,418 lb. yellow spotted barr hog, sloppy fat, with almost 6 inches of cutter on one side and 4 1/2 on the other. We made sausage out of him and had him mounted life sized and it is pretty awesome! But - it takes up a good portion of our small dining room, and the kids seem to think the base of it is a good dirt track for their toy trucks. I often walk through the house and see him decorated with their laundry or a cowboy hat. Right now as I type he has a Christmas stocking and a tablecloth on him, (don't ask me why)
Here are some of the benefits to ordering a custom painting:
1. Size does matter!
You have the option of choosing how much space your art takes up on your wall, and you can be pretty sure it will not need any leg room! Paintings and drawings tend to be one dimensional. You probably will not hit your head on them.
2. I take artist's liberties!
Besides the fact of artwork's actual square footage being friendly to those of us with a "small footprint" home, the detail can be quite a bit more accurate. Most taxidermists are limited to a few basic mount sizes and shapes to put your trophy on. It may, or may not resemble your animal when it's finished. I know with our hog mount that even though it is artfully done and the taxidermist skillfully padded out the basic mount's frame with foam, it still came pretty short of being the actual size of the live hog. The taxidermist admittedly had the handicap of not having seen the live hog, since when we brought it to him it was just skin and skull. When I paint, I use photos to gain perspective of the sizeof the living animal, I also have the benefit of being able to "embellish" a bit. (wink wink) So your hog or deer or turkey turns out larger than life! I can even make tusks appear where there were none!
3. You or your dog can be a star!
If you and your dogs catch a biggun and you choose to have it mounted your dogs can't be a part of the actual display (it would be a bit hard on them) If you hire me to record the memorable scene I can paint you and the dogs right in the action!
4. Price!
With Head Turner Art prices starting at $40 I can pretty much assure you that you'll find an option to fit your budget. You have the choices of pyrography (woodburnings), graphite drawings. black and white drawings, and acrylic paintings from a 5x7 size up to 22x34.
5. Speed!
I offer a two to three week turn around time on most orders, taxidermy understandably takes a little longer than that.
6. You are sure to love it!
Last but not least, when you order a custom masterpiece from Head Turner Art you will be guaranteed to be satisfied!( If you get it stuffed you might end up with a monstrosity like the one above.)
Just a little fun considering your options, I respect good taxidermy. I love my life size hog! He adds so much interest to my dining room and a great hat rack for the family!
(Note: the ugly hog in the picture is one I pulled off google, not one I know in person. Also all the taxidermists I know do a wonderful job on their mounts.)
