A Monumental Trip

We had a terrific time while in the Washington DC area; I think I captured around 2000 images. I spent three very early mornings in the city by myself--there is nothing like watching the sun come up in a city before all the activity starts. I met two other photographers who were friendly and helpful, and we visited the beautiful gallery that one of them maintains at the National Harbor. The Lincoln Memorial was my favorite of the memorials, both to see and to photograph. We got out of the city one day to see Shenandoah National Park; we missed the fall colors by a couple of weeks but it was a very nice day nonetheless. I found DC a bit of a challenge to photograph because it does not have the usual skyline, instead you have to capture the grandeur and meaning of monuments and memorials. This was great practice for me and I learned a lot.

If you get a chance to visit the area, do so! People are friendly and the whole area is far more scenic than you might imagine. We will definitely return if we get an opportunity.
