I just completed my "Tree with Vines," painting and am contemplating several other ideas that have popped into my head! I love the idea of trying an image of wine glasses. It's a real challenge to show wine in the glasses and still have the glasses look transparent. Anyone who has tried to create this type of image can sympathize with me. I love seeing artists that have conquered the transparent look of glass! It's very challenging, at least to me! Also, I'm thinking it would be cool to do something for a kid's room. As a kid, my mom, an educator, bought me and my sister the whole "Childcraft" series of books. When I was sick and had to stay home, I would get the books down from the shelf and starting looking through the books. One book in particular was enticing to me. I think it was the illustrations, which were stellar! To me, already an "artist" even in grade school, the images proved irresistible! One of my favorite poems in the book was, "The Land of Counterpane," by Robert Louis Stevenson. When I was sick and lay a-bed, I had two pillows at my head, and all my toys beside me lay to keep me happy all the day. And sometimes for an hour or so, I watched my leaden soldier go, with different uniforms and drills, among the bedclothes, through the hills; And sometimes sent my ships in fleets All up and down among the sheets; Or brought my trees and houses out, and planted cities all about. I was the giant great and still That sits upon the pillow-hill, And sees before him, dale and plain, The pleasant land of counterpane." I absolutely love this poem and the visuals that come to me, toy soldiers, cities, etc.....so, one of my next pieces will be "The Land of Counterpane," paying homage to Robert Louis Stevenson's poem! So, stay tuned to "another day in the life of an artist!"
