A Cluttered Studio

I am not the most organized person you will ever meet. I would say that on a scale of 1 to 10, my organizing skills are about a 6. That's on a good day. So the longer I create art, the bigger mess I make with my art and art supplies.
I do not have a formal art studio, So my stuff is kind of spread out around my house. I have a desk in my bedroom. I keep my sketchbooks, pencils, and paints pretty well contained in drawers. Although the materials I am currently using may be scattered around the coffee table, kitchen counter, or pretty much anywhere I think to put them down.
I also have a growing number of paintings and limited wall space. When I finish a painting, it generally ends up sitting on the piano or one of the dining room chairs until it sells. The first floor of my house looks like some sort of cross between an art gallery and a flea market most of the time.
So this leads me to the question of how to store my paintings until they are either sold or hung. I really don't know much about this topic. I will probably do some research on the internet and by reading other artists' blogs. In the meantime, I would appreciate any advice or personal experience.
Artists: how and where do you store your finished art inventory?
