Something New

This week I tried something I've never done before. I created a mosaic. I'll admit it was something I had never given any thought to doing. But a friend expressed interest in mosaic making, and that got me started thinking about it. It sounded like a fun new way of being creative. So I gave it a try.
There are so many tutorials on the internet and so many materials that can be used. For my first attempt, I decided I would try paper. I figured that might be easier for the first time. Also, if it didn't turn out well, I wouldn't have wasted too much money or materials.
First I had to decide what image to make. I decided on a willow tree. I figured this is a fairly simple image and it could turn out to be really pretty. Next I took two pieces of scrap paper and a box of crayons. I figured out what colors I would be using to make my mosaic. I used those crayons to totally cover the entire pieces of paper. When that was done, I got scissors. This was the tedious part. I cut each section of color into little square or triangular pieces. These would become the tiles used in the mosaic.
Next I got out my art journal. I decided this would be a good place to put the mosaic. My art journal is where I do a lot of my experimentation with my art. I got a glue stick and sorted out the tiles by color.
From there I glued each tile, piece by piece, until the whole paper was covered. Below is the image that I ended up with.
It took a few hours to complete the entire project. But it was definitely worth it. Not only was it fun to be creative in a whole new way, but it was surprisingly relaxing. I cannot wait to make another one!
