Painting

It is winter here in Iowa, USA and it is COLD. It has been an interesting and long winter here. During this winter, instead of getting frustrated with not having some beautiful nature to photograph... I took up painting! I have always had an interest in painting. My father and I used to watch Bob Ross on public TV while I was a child. It was one of my absolute favorite shows to watch. My father used to paint and sometimes I would try also. (I was very little, so I was using kid friendly water colors.) I did some painting in art class while in High School, but my main interest over the last several years has been photography.

Anyway, with this winter being long and cold, I went to a painting class. They pick the image and you then paint that image. I wasn't a fan of the design they had scheduled for that day and I am disappointed in the resulting painting. But this is not a sad story ending here. Instead I went out and purchased some materials and I have been painting every chance I get! I am loving it! I do notice, I prefer to have some choice in what I get to paint. I am not a fan of replicating someone else's work. I understand that method helps people learn and that is OK. I may see something and think "oh, I like that..." and I'd like to do something along those lines, but I do not want to replicate what another artist created. I am using Acrylic paints, a variety of either stretched canvas, canvas board and some thick paper.

I have been very excited to paint and though I never thing its perfect, I think I have improved over the last couple months! :)
