4-26-16, Window Into The Mind Series in the disussion thread of the FAA group - Cubes Squares and Boxes

This is a message I received from our group host, Charles Robinson...

Hi Brian

As I have said in my comments, I really love your series of photographs on the window into the mind.

I am not sure how many people actually visit the group and look at the discussions, but I think that it would be interesting, perhaps beneficial, if you would start a discussion and post your images with a description of your thoughts and perhaps how you developed the series. I will place a link to the discussion on the homepage.

OK, so here goes...

Let me start off by saying I love variety, and experimenting.

You may not know me or my personality, but I'm the kind of guy who goes to the store to discover what I want. I look at an item and wonder to myself, "now what can I use this for other than what it's intended to be for".

With that said, I'm constantly trying to evolve, learn, adapt, and sometimes I've even been a pioneer. Some ideas that come to me are really from something I've seen somewhere, maybe someone's art, or a concept that I want to explore for my own development. It's a starting place that I want to adapt, refine, add to, according to my own tastes.

Along with the experience, experiments, knowledge, and conceptual ideas, for me there is also just plain instincts, curiosity, and a feeling that triggers a desire and inspiration to see where an idea may go.

I also don't want to overdo something to the point of being redundant or expected. This can sometimes be difficult when you're exploring an idea. Well those are the risks you take sometimes. I know myself well enough not to be too worried.

In the series below, I was struck in my own mind's eye, how the wonderment of something such as the cosmos can be used to symbolize deeper thoughts of the unexplained and unknown... Something that can seem so far from our daily lives yet so close in our subconscious thoughts. Some thoughts that we may not have often but stir a bit of contemplation in relation to our dreams, and what may lay ahead, once we've shuffled off this mortal coil. :)

I use the window/door in many cases, as a catalyst or prop, as a focus point for conjecture into a deeper realm that is a conflict to the reality of the window itself. So, the window becomes a portal... A symbol of something we understand that transitions into a different dimension of many possibilities that only our subconscious might have explored, as we wait for a new day... A new beginning!

This is a group discussion thread and open to your thoughts if you desire to contribute something.

Here are some images I've created using the concept Charles asked me to put here.

Thank you!
Brian

Surreal image depicting the mind's unknown and untapped potential that hides within our own window of imagination and possibilities.

A surreal image of a young child running through the open doors of a red barn, towards an open cosmos of new worlds and galaxies unknown.

Digital fantasy image related to spiritualism and beyond the conscious mind.

Fantasy, and surreal image of a mysterious shed with a door that opens a threshold to the unknown.

A fantasy and surreal image of a window in the attic and a strange vision of dark clouds surrounding a bright light with white birds flying towards the light. An open chest symbolizing the past material attachments partially obstructs the view outside. What does it mean? Holding on to the past, the present, life... foreseeing the future, letting go, releasing one's self from the material world... The end, the beginning? Crossing over? A journey into the unknown, a safe passage, symbolism of what's to come? For you?... for someone you love?

Digital fantasy image of a woman sitting in an open window looking outside, where there is an inviting scene of spiritual awakening.

A surreal image of fantasy which questions the dimensions of reality in our mind's eye. William Shakespeare - 'There are more things in Heaven and Earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy.'

The image is a combination of real photography of the sky, enhanced through digital graphics and manipulation.

The original image was taken in an abandoned house near Salisbury Maryland. I added some thought provoking effects for added interest and artistic content.

Fantasy image of an open window to the unknown. The window represents the mind and outside the window represents imagination. What could be... the unknown... what we perceive. Is it a connection to a dimension beyond our own? Souls that have passed on, or waiting to begin again? It's what you imagine it to be!

This one isn't incorporating a window, but has a similar philosophy...
Surrealistic image of grapes growing on the vine... no wait... it's a cluster of planets, moons... or maybe symbolism of our planet, still growing, developing, and maturing.
