Blue Moon

This painting is titled “Blue Moon” because both animals are staring at the moon and the blue reflection of the moon is evidenced in their eyes. The focal points of the painting are in their visual and facial expressions which show the mellow side of these highly intelligent and social animals. The angular color pattern in the background balances the circular and monotone compositions of the two heads.
For centuries, wolves have been in the lives of humans with countless stories and myths. Portrayed as pests and vermin, wolves are misrepresented as villainous, wicked and treacherous, and have been hunted and killed throughout the centuries. Wolves are neither overly aggressive without provocation nor unconditionally gentle as compared to their domestic counterpart. It all boils down to survival instinct, which is inherent to all living organisms including humans. Gray wolves, once common throughout all of North America, were hunted and exterminated in many areas of the United States. Today, their range has been reduced to Canada, Alaska and the upper states of the US.
Please visit many of the wildlife conservation sites to learn more about their beautiful animals. These are two of my favorite sites.
