20140813 Monotype Print- Latest Effort

Monotype printing, I am finding can be affected by a number of factors. I had read somewhere that the temperature of the water that you use to soak the print paper in and the length of time of the soak makes a difference in the final transfer. For this print I used a temp. leaning too the hot side of warm and a time of about 10 minutes for the soak. I guess the time of the soak will be paper dependent. You will want to catch it just before dissolving the sizing. Limiting the soak time like this produce harder edges on this print I think. Also for the first time I had enough ink left on the plate after the primary transfer to pull a ghost print on damp newsprint paper.

Final result, "Whaleback 01", 10" x 5" monotype print on 9" x 12" stonehenge paper. Whaleback is a rocky outcrop on the back shore of Peaks Island, ME. It is in the shape of a....wait for it...whale's back.
