Moving Onward

Today I uploaded my three-panel artwork to my website. Yes, this is such a rewarding journey in so many ways. This brings my total up to 19 completed paintings out of 100. I won’t even speculate what it will be like when I have completed 50…
My love for ancient art and folk art from different countries has definitely influenced me. Recently I was looking at photos of amphibians (doing research on poisonous critters from different countries) and noticed the beautiful patterns on the snakes, and contemplated how animals inspired the people, the artists, of ancient times--warm tones and intricate designs.
This time, while working on these three panels of sunflowers, I noticed how much symmetry and beauty are exacted in the center of the flower. I grew a lot of sunflowers in my garden this year (thank you for sending the seeds, Mom) and am patiently waiting for their maturity.
My garden is my oasis, my refuge, my sanctuary. And as I imitate (or do my best to) them on a piece of plywood with colorful synthetic sticky stuff, I feel grateful for all that my garden has to offer and teach me.
I’m continuing my online art education—mainly from free YouTube videos, and I’m appreciating the variety of wonderful souls who make their wisdom and experience freely available. Still, I’ve watched four or five “how to’s “ on painting clouds…I notice that it’s a whole new scene applying paint to canvas rather than board. And I also notice how much paint I glob on my board and scratch off in the name of the sgrafitto technique. Recently I found a source for canvas board here in Ooty, and I’m contemplating buying a few if they’re small enough. I’m not ready to “Go Big” yet, but maybe when I am around the 50 out of 100 paintings mark.
