Living The Dream

Its been a while since I have written anything in my blog. 4 and a half years ago, I suffered a brain haemorrhage and its been a long 4 years in recovery, but I am back on top (and I might add, I am in 2% of people to survive a ruptured aneurysm in the brain, so thank you God). My illness hasn't stopped me from painting or drawing, it just slowed me down for a while...not because of disability, but due to constant headaches. I am now painting and drawing even better than before, and I am really "living the dream". Some pretty wonderful things have happened to me in the last 4 1/2 years, a big thank you to Fine Art America, because it was through them that Cambridge University Press found my painting titled "Pleasure & Pain" and I received my first ever book cover, and of course, the biggest thanks to God, after all, He kept me alive and gave me this amazing gift. I am of course simply over the moon that one of my humble pieces would be selected for a book cover. I am really just a Mum (and a Grandma) who decided to have a go at something I love, and the journey has been simply awesome. When I first started out I could barely manage to splash colour on canvas, but when I stopped limiting myself...and stopped saying I could never do it...I began to see changes in my art, and my style of art, that I never thought I would see. In short...I blew myself away with just what I could do. If I could offer one piece of valuable advice to any new or struggling artist, it would be this....."never say never" , never say I can't...I couldn't....I don't! if you really want to, you can and you will; if you take the time to believe in yourself, have a little faith...and, have a go! you just might blow yourself away also. I feel as though i am living my dream....people want to buy my paintings (that surprises me still), one of the largest and most respectable Universities in the world, bought the rights to one of my paintings for a book cover (it has my name on the back of the dust jacket, I will never get over that). By the way, I am self taught (with a little help from my friends) no formal training, just me and my paint brush,...at home in my studio, doing my own thing. If I can do it...anyone can. So whatever else happens in your life, don't stop striving for that dream, hold onto it, push forward and say "well, I don't know if I can, but I'll give it a shot, the worst thing that can happen is, you fail, and we always learn by our mistakes. If you keep trying you can make it happen....I am certain of it.
