I like trying new media from time to time. For this 6 X 17 inch painting I used watercolour on TerraSkin paper. This paper is made from stone, tree free and friendly to the environment. It is fairly heavy and feels smooth to the touch. The paint moves around on the paper and is difficult to control. I simplified the poppy shapes and resisted my desire for detail. Once the shapes of the five poppies were in place, I sprayed the painting with water. This caused some of the red pigment to move around and suggest rain. I also like using TerraSkin to create abstracts with watercolour or acrylic pigments. The mobility and unpredictability of the pigments on this slippery surface can be fun.
