New Year Resolutions

2015. A new year. And with the start of every new year, many resolutions are begun. And within a few days, many are broken. This year I have a few resolutions of my own. And while I may have setbacks, I will regroup and start over as many times as necessary to follow through on my resolutions.

1. Take a photo every day.
Not with an iPhone (although many good photos have been taken with an iPhone). Get out my "big" camera and shoot a well thought out photo. I am starting a shot list, so that I can plan photos in advance and so I can cross stuff off. Everybody needs to feel the satisfaction of crossing stuff off a list. Sometimes I put stuff on my list after I do it, so I can cross it off.

2. Start a new blog.
Check. See how easy that is. I have been fearful of writing about photography, but many people have encouraged me to do it, so here we go.

3. Teach photography
Another thing I've been fearful of. What do I have to teach? To be honest, I don't know. I don't consider myself a great photographer. And I doubt people will spend thousands of dollars to sit at my feet. However, I am passionate about photography and if I can help some people become better photographers, then that's good enough for me. Plus, to be a good teacher, you have to learn more about your subject. So it can only help my photography.

4. Find ways to sell my photographs.
My wife is always telling me that the animals and trees I photograph don't pay me to take their picture. I should get into portrait photography. While I agree with her (always a wise thing to do), I don't like people. Let me rephrase that, I don't like "photographing" people. It's not something I'm comfortable with and while I think I could do an adequate job, it's not something I'm passionate about. I LOVE going out into the woods. I love photographing landscapes. I love trying to get a unique photo of a wild animal. So that's what I'm going to keep doing. I'll still do other types of photography, but I am going to find sources to sell my nature and wildlife photography.

Think of your resolutions as goals. Write them down. Read them everyday. And don't get down, if you don't follow through with one. You can start a goal or a resolution anytime. There's nothing magical about starting them on January 1. As I mentioned earlier, many resolutions have already been broken by the end of the first day.

Another benefit of putting these resolutions/goal down, is accountability. I ask that you hold me accountable. And if you want to comment and share your resolutions, I will be happy to keep you accountable as well.

Whatever you do, I hope you have a great 2015. Be blessed and successful in everything you do.
